Illustrations & Comics

Hello! My name is Maya LeMaitre. I'm an illustrator and cartoonist living in Toronto.

I was born in Montreal, Canada and grew up in Cape Town, South Africa. I moved to Toronto in 2019.

I studied Fine Art at the Ruth Prowse School of Art in Cape Town, and graduated in 2013. After graduating I completed a semester studying Fine Art at the University of Hertfordshire, England, in 2014.

I've been working as an illustrator since 2015 and have done a variety of work, including illustrations for concerts, short films, private commissions as well as educational illustrations for Psychology Press, Juta & Co. Ltd. and Maskew Miller Longman.

Since 2018 I have written and illustrated a comic called Mimi’s Life on Mars for Supernova Magazine. In 2022 it was published as a graphic novel by BK Publishing.

I like to work in both traditional and digital media to create my illustrations and comics, sometimes combing the two. Watercolours will always be my favourite, though!
